Abstract
Background: type 1 diabetes has been increasing among children. New methods for treatment like insulin pump, continuous blood glucose monitor and Insuflon has been used to reduce pain. Quantitative research demonstrated lower quality of life among children with type 1 diabetes in comparison with healthy children. Objective: to describe factors that affect the quality of life among children with type 1 diabetes.
Method: A literature review based on 15 qualitative research.
Result: the children felt different and alone. They ignored their self-care to fit in. They experienced strong feeling like hatred, anger and sadness. Pain was common due to the self-care. Even though they had negative emotions some children could cope with their situation and when they gained knowledge, their life felt easier.
Conclusion: When the results were connected to the objectivistic pluralism theory of quality of life conclusion was made that the children had several factors that had a negative effect on their quality of life. Children with type 1 diabetes had a lower quality of life in comparison with healthy children. Health care and school health has to work with prevention and to educate teachers and children at schools when children experienced lack of knowledge among people around them.
